The mega event will be played in India

Afghanistan named their squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 on Wednesday.

The squad for the mega event will be led by top-order batter Hashmatullah Shahidi.

Naveen-ul-Haq has been recalled to the Afghanistan ODI squad after a gap of two years for the World Cup in India. However, senior all-rounder Gulbadin Naib didn’t get the nod despite good performance in the ongoing Asia Cup.

Four changes have been made to the squad that is playing the Asia Cup. The likes of Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf and Suliman Safi also miss out aside from Naib.

There are familiar faces in the spin bowling attack with the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad.

Apart from Naveen, the pace attack has Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman and Azmatullah Omarzai.

The ICC World Cup 2023 will take place in India with 10 teams fighting for the elusive title across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament opener and the final.

The Cricket World Cup will be played in the round-robin format with all teams playing against each other for a total of 45 league matches.

The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, which will be held in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
